Many Instagram creators with Subscriptions or Gifts enabled run into a frustrating loop: you reach the tax information step during payout setup, get asked to log in again, and then get redirected back to the previous page—never reaching the actual tax form. Here’s what’s happening and how to fix it.
Why does this happen?
Instagram’s payout and tax form flow uses a separate authentication layer managed by Meta’s payment infrastructure. When your session token doesn’t transfer correctly between the two systems, you get caught in a redirect loop — logging in successfully but landing back where you started instead of on the tax form.
Fixes to try (in order)
- Update the Instagram app
Go to the Play Store (Android) or App Store (iOS) and make sure Instagram is fully up to date. Session and redirect bugs like this are often patched in updates.
- Force close and reopen the app
Completely close Instagram from your app switcher, reopen it, and immediately navigate to the tax info step without doing anything else first.
- Log out, then log back in fresh
Go to Settings → Log Out, log back in with your credentials, and go straight to the payout/tax step. A fresh session token can resolve the redirect conflict.
- Clear the app cache (Android)
Go to your phone’s Settings → Apps → Instagram → Storage → Clear Cache. On iOS, you may need to delete and reinstall the app. Then log back in and retry.
- Switch networks
Toggle between Wi-Fi and mobile data before attempting the flow. Sometimes network-level interference affects how authentication redirects are handled.
- Try on a different device
If possible, log into Instagram on a different phone or tablet and attempt the tax info step there. The loop is sometimes device-specific.
Note for VPN users: If you're using a VPN, turn it off before attempting the tax form flow. VPNs can interfere with Meta's authentication redirects and cause the loop.
If nothing works — report it to Instagram
If all the above steps fail, the loop is a bug on your specific account that only Meta’s support team can resolve. Here’s how to report it:
In the Instagram app: Settings (☰) → Help → Report a Problem
Suggested message to send:
“When I try to fill in my tax information during the Subscriptions/Gifts payout setup, the app asks me to log in again. After logging in successfully, it redirects me back to the previous page instead of opening the tax form. I am stuck in this loop and cannot complete my payout setup. Please help.”
This is a known issue tied to how Instagram’s payout system hands off authentication to Meta’s payment layer. Most creators resolve it with a fresh login or app update — but if the loop persists, a support report is the fastest path to a fix on your account.
